Chris Schmidt, known as "Schmidty" in the kitchen, started his passion for food early with both parents working as managers in Atlanta, Georgia restaurants. He attended Johnson and Wales Culinary school on a full scholarship after winning a national cooking competition when he was only 19, earning a double degree in Culinary Arts and Nutrition.
Working as a Sous Chef at one of the top restaurants in Denver, Chris and his wife fulfilled their dream of working in the Rocky Mountains when he landed the Sous Chef position at Mountain Standard in the fall of 2013. A short 6 months later, Chris and his creative talents were promoted as Chef of Sweet Basil.
On his days off, Chris loves to brew his own beer, snowboards and goes camping and backpacking with his wife Janelle, son Oliver and their boxers Hendrix and Zeppelin.
