Winemaker Braiden Albrecht

Mayacamas | Napa, CA | https://www.mayacamas.com

Braiden Albrecht joined Mayacamas the winemaking team in August 2013. Braiden manages the winemaking and vineyards
operations on the property. He is driven to make high quality, long-lived wines that are true to style and that represent this
beautiful, diverse and rugged site.
Albrecht proudly grew up in Sonoma Valley but has deep roots in Napa Valley. A fifth generation vitner, his great-great grandfather
planted vineyards on the Rutherford Bench. The Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard served as a backdrop to his childhood and is still
farmed by his family.
After a short stint as a Colorado ski bum, Braiden returned home to study Agriculture and Resource Economics at UC Berkeley.
Braiden spent his summers working for renowned organic winegrower Phil Coturri in the hillside vineyards of Napa and Sonoma –
gaining experience with viticulture while developing a deep respect for the land and the people who farm it.
During the fall semesters, Braiden and his childhood friends would make their way back to Sonoma and make wine together.
Armed with home winemaking books, free grapes and cold beer, each harvest was a way to bring friends together, work hard and
have fun. Captivated by the entire process, from vine to wine, Albrecht decided to pursue winemaking professionally. Shortly after
receiving his degree, he worked harvests at Saint Clair New Zealand and Philip Shaw Wines in Australia.
Following a brief sabbatical in India, where he worked as mountaineering and motorcycle guild in the Himalaya, Albrecht joined
Mayacamas and hasn’t looked back.
Braiden lives in Sonoma with his girlfriend Amy and golden retriever Ollie. When he’s not up at the winery, Braiden can usually be
found skiing at Squaw Valley, rooting for the San Francisco Giants and Golden State Warriors, or reading Hemingway.
