Vail, Colo. - December 23, 2010 - Acclaimed Colorado artist Carrie Fell will be on hand next week to unveil her latest design, the commemorative artwork for the 21st Annual Taste of Vail food and wine festival. The Unveiling of the Art will take place Tuesday, Dec. 28 from 4-6 p.m. at Masters Gallery in Vail Village. The public is welcome to attend and complimentary hors d'oeuvres will be served by the team from La Tour restaurant.
Carrie Fell is an artist of the 21st century New West, just as Remington and Russell portrayed their New West in the 19th century. Her dramatic use of color and line give life and feeling to her faceless subjects, from longhorns to cowgirls. Through her work, Fell tells the traditional stories of Western art, stories of cowboys and cowgirls and horses and the infinite sky.
A native of Denver, Carrie Fell began her career as an artist in 1985. As one of the hardest-working artists in the art biz, Fell produces paintings and limited editions collected and exhibited by individuals, companies and institutions throughout North America. Her works are included in numerous gallery and invitational exhibitions annually and she remains active in charitable causes serving them both through her donations and time.
"To have someone of Carrie's caliber and notoriety give her time and talent to Taste of Vail is incredibly exciting," said Paul Ferzacca, Taste of Vail board member and owner of La Tour and Zacca Za! restaurants. "Her work is a reflection of the Western lifestyle just as Taste of Vail is a celebration of the mountain lifestyle we all love. We believe she's captured the spirit of the event through her design and we are thrilled to have her unveil it to the public next week. We hope the public will join us on Tuesday to celebrate her artwork, as well as Taste of Vail."
The 21st Annual Taste of Vail will take place April 7-9, 2011 at several venues throughout North America's most popular mountain resort. The event features more than 30 guest chefs, restaurateurs and sommeliers as well as more than 50 wineries. The event kicks off on April 7 at 3 p.m. with the 7th Annual Colorado Lamb Cook-off and Après Ski Tasting in the heart of Vail Village. Local chefs will showcase their finest lamb dishes to the public, while simultaneously competing for prizes in the cook-off. Guest vintners also will serve wine varietals within the theme "Life Beyond Chardonnay & Cabernet."
The showcase event on Friday, April 8 is the Mountaintop Picnic from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Vail Mountain. Located at 10,350 feet above sea level in a hand-built snow arena, the setting for the Picnic is unlike any other food and wine event. Chefs from Vail's top restaurants will serve up a gourmet picnic, while guest wineries serve selections of their finest wines. Ticket holders can ski to the event or take the Eagle Bahn Gondola out of Lionshead to access the signature on-mountain picnic.
Taste of Vail wraps up on Saturday, April 9 with the Grand Tasting from 7 p.m. to midnight. The Grand Tasting is the culmination of the three-day event with chefs showcasing their most creative fare alongside wine partners who feature their best product.
Taste of Vail's popular food and wine seminars also return for the 21st Annual event, past favorites include Umami "Wine and Food in Balance," Aphrodisiac Foods, and Celebrity Death Cage Match Between Wine, Beer and Cheese. If the seminars and events don't fill the appetite, numerous restaurants throughout Vail will host winemaker dinners to pair signature dishes and specialty wines. A complete list of seminars and winemaker dinners along with times and pricing will be available in early 2011.
All-you-can eat and drink wristbands can be purchased for $75 to the Colorado Lamb Cook-off & Apres Ski Tasting. The Mountaintop Picnic is $125 with tickets for the Grand Tasting $125. Sampler passes also are available for $350 and includes the Lamb Cook-off, Mountaintop Picnic and Grand Tasting.
