TASTING NOTES: Our first vintage of Little Boot Vineyard Pinot Noir from the Green Valley of Russian River Valley is already a complete showstopper. This wine has an inky and intense purple hue in the glass. Aromas are of dusty black cherry, dried black plum, candied violets, a hint of Maine wild blueberries, dried red rose petal and a hint of clove. The palate is gorgeous with juicy black and red fruit tones on the front with spice notes and great texture rounding it out. There are medium tannins that are chewy but balanced and delicious and good acidity on the finish. WINEMAKING NOTES: Our Little Boot Pinot Noir comes from a cooler site in west Sonoma County, in the heart of Green Valley. The cold nights give way to fog well into mid-day and then warms for only a few hours with a breeze coming off the coast and through the vines. This breeze leads to thicker skins and the long, slow hangtime leads to mature ripening and amazing flavors. This vineyard is hand harvested at night and is a blend of 3 clones. The grapes are brought to the winery ice cold and 17% whole cluster was put into the tank. The remainder was destemmed but left whole berry. We cold soaked for 5 days before warming the tank and letting the fermentation go with native yeast. After 12 days of fermentation, we drained the tank directly to a mix of new and used barrels where it remained on primary lees until being bottled unfined and unfiltered 11 months later.
